Southeast YouTubers on the Rise

YouTubers are among us. Several students in our community post serially about fashion and photography and other forms of self-expression.

Kassandra Garcia, a Southeast Junior, focuses her videos on makeup. “I want to feel comfortable and show a different side of my personality,” she said. Kassandra’s self-professed mode is shy and to herself. By demonstrating to her viewers the creativity behind using makeup to create a certain look, she is able to express parts of herself that she would not show at school under normal circumstances.

Kassandra’s vlogs have a variety of features. She hosts “name that tune” challenges and even experiments with new features. “I’m working on future videos that will be based on a point of view recording. I will be using a GoPro to enhance the graphics of my videos,” she said. Her goal is to make her channel more artistic and appealing to viewers.

Another Southeast Junior, Joel Velazquez, has a YouTube channel focusing on shoe reviews as well as vlogs about his day to day activities. “It is fun to see what I have done and how I have changed.” Joel creates how-to videos regarding shoes on topics such as shoe cleaning to help others and hopefully make them into “sneakerheads” in the process. Joel’s videos reach from 2,000 to 4,000 views and have been monetized. He was inspired by other Youtubers and started filming, eventually starting his own shoe collection.

Our students are not only managing the stressful life of high school but are taking the time to pursue their own interests as well. Although these Youtubers concentrate on a variety of topics, their unique videos are seen by many people of our community, and the Youtubers themselves receive the support that inspires them to pursue this exciting hobby.
